It's the holidays, which means it’s time for all of us black folk to mull over Kwanzaa, its legitimacy, its lack thereof, its history, its participation rate, etc.
Or we could just snark it to death. @BrokeyMcPoverty offers us a proper remix of discussions around the celebration with #hiphopkwaanza, replacing words in popular song lyrics and album titles with Kwanzaa principles.
"It's tough tryna get these principles in hip hop form," she said. But it's oh so worth it. She's so kuumba, ain't she?
For those of you who are deficient in Kwanzaa knowledge, the weeklong holiday (Dec. 26-Jan. 1) has seven core principles: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity) and Imani (faith).
