Stevie Wonder is celebrating his 65th birthday Wednesday, and his music is just as amazing today as it was when it topped the charts in the 1970s and ’80s.
Stevland Hardaway Morris was born May 13, 1950, in Saginaw, Mich. He was given the nickname “Little Stevie Wonder” by Motown producer Clarence Paul in the 1960s. From the start of his career, Wonder has proved that just because he couldn’t see the music didn’t mean he couldn’t feel the effect it had on his fans.
Wonder’s hits include tunes from Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness’ First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life. If you haven’t listened to Songs in the Key of Life, we just can’t be friends, ever. Wonder’s music not only transcended genres but also addressed social issues, from the racism he sung about in “Living for the City” to drugs in “Too High.”
Wonder may be 65 years old, but don’t expect him to stop making music. He’s currently executive-producing NBC’s Underground Railroad musical miniseries and working on a new album. And oh yeah—let’s also not forget that Wonder recently became a new father.
