Though Halle Berry is currently in love with her boyfriend Van Hunt, she recently took a moment to shade her ex-husband Eric Benét...and in typical Berry fashion, the shade is hilarious.
For context, Berry and Benét were married for nearly five years from 2001-2005. Berry announced their split in 2003 and she eventually divorced Benét due to his infidelity. In a 2004 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Berry explained that she found out about her ex’s cheating through a Star Magazine article just 10 days after she won the Oscar for Best Actress.
She said she automatically went into “sue mode,” for about a week until Benét sat her down and told her that the allegations in the magazine were true.
What she would later find out is that Benét had been having women on the side virtually since the day the two of them met. After a talk with her mother and her then-husband, they surmised that the “Femininity” singer had a sex addiction and that was the root cause of his issues.
“I realized this is a sickness,” she told Winfrey back then. Benét would later go on to attend an Arizona rehab for his sex addiction in 2002 but that wasn’t enough to keep them together.
Fast forward more than 20 years later, and Berry is calling BS on her ex’s “sickness.” Speaking in a new interview with Dax Shepard for his “Armchair Expert” podcast on Monday, Berry spoke frankly about her ex when asked if she was attracted to addicts given the fact that her father was an alcoholic.
“Well, “I had one husband who said he was a sex addict. But I don’t f***ing believe that shit,” Berry said with a laugh, adding, “That’s some bullshit.”
Benét has spoken on his alleged addiction, telling ABC News in 2004, “I am not a sex addict. I am a person who, through a series of emotional events, troubles, challenges, made some really, really stupid, painful mistakes.”
