Halle Berry will not be making her Broadway debut this September after all. Producers of the play The Mountaintop recently announced that the actress was forced to drop out of her role because of "child-custody issues."
The Oscar winner and her ex-beau Gabriel Aubry have been involved in an ongoing custody battle over their 3-year-old daughter, Nahla, since last December. The couple — who split last April — began the dispute when Aubry filed papers to be recognized as the father of Nahla and requested joint custody.
Sadly, this isn't the first time legal woes have interfered with the star's career. Berry was forced to drop out of Gary Marshall's film New Year's Eve before rejoining the cast in February after a judge ruled that she was allowed to take Nahla to New York to shoot the film.
The New York Times has already confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson is still scheduled to portray Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the play, created by award-winning playwright Katori Hall. The Mountaintop depicts the day before King was assassinated as imagined by Hall. Berry was going to play Camae, a maid at Memphis' Lorraine Hotel, where King was killed. It is unknown who will be replacing the actress in the play.
We hope that Berry and Aubry can come to an agreement soon — for the sake of either the child or Berry's career.
