ESPN is reporting that legendary football player Lawrence Taylor pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors in court on Thursday for his May 6 arrest for felony statutory rape. Taylor will be sentenced to six years' probation and will have to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty to one count of soliciting a prostitute and a second count of sexual misconduct in having sex with a woman without consent. The victim in the case told Taylor she was 19, when in fact she was 16, which means she was not old enough to give consent, according to New York State law.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 22, which is when state Supreme Court Justice William Kelly will determine what level of sex-offender status Taylor will have. An order of protection was also approved, although Taylor's lawyer, Arthur Aidala, argued that he does not know the victim in the case. Aidala is requesting that Taylor's probation be transferred to where he now lives in Florida.
We think that getting probation for soliciting a prostitute who was a minor is getting off pretty easily, even if Taylor has to register himself as a sex offender. We have two questions: How did he find his attorney, and when will Taylor get it together?
