As a very smart colleague of mine notes, “Not even imaginary black people can catch a break.” When under suspicion or in trouble, just use a tactic as old as Methuselah: Blame a black guy. Racism makes the explanation plausible, and even chief executives do it.

Anywho, the beat goes on. This time, in New York City, a 20-year-old accidentally shot himself in the stomach at a Bronx park—and blamed it on a made-up African-American dude.

The New York Daily News reports that police arrested Arthur Palombo on Thursday after they smelled something fishy about his story of being shot.

Turns out, Palombo accidentally shot himself in his stomach, police said. The bullet exited, and he was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

His initial story was that he went to the park to show an old revolver to a potential buyer he had met a few weeks earlier.

He said this “buyer” haggled with him over the $100 asking price and shot him with the gun. Palombo, who is Hispanic, described the shooter as a black man with a bald head.

Cops searched the park and found the revolver.

After being released from the hospital, this genius was questioned by detectives again and ’fessed up, saying the gun went off accidentally in his jacket pocket.

Prosecutors charged Palombo with weapons possession and filing a false report. He was being held on $10,000 bail.
