Known for being almost completely unfiltered and even a little bit rude, “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Mary Cosby didn’t make a whole lot of friends on the show in her first few seasons. But in season five, fans got to see saw a softer side of Cosby as she played a lot nicer with her fellow cast members and even opened up about her son Robert Jr’s issues with drug addiction and his road to recovery in a November episode of the show.
Now, in a new interview with Vulture, Cosby opens up about the support she received from a billionaire beauty who sent her some love during that tough time for her family.
“Rihanna reached out to me twice. She reached out to us when the show aired and told us she loved us. And then on Christmas Day, she said, ‘Merry Christmas, and I love you and Robert Jr,’” she said. “I feel like if you can reach people of that caliber, you’re doing something right, you know what I mean?”
Cosby told TODAY.com that her decision to share Robert Jr.’s story on the show wasn’t made lightly. But she is proud of the honest unscripted conversation they had.
“It wasn’t planned,” she said. “What came out of him was real, and what came out of me was real. And I think that’s why it went across so good, because we weren’t doing it for any sole reason. We were doing it because that’s our relationship.”
Since the episode aired, Cosby told TODAY.com that Robert Jr. has willing completed rehab and has been motivated by the words of encouragement he’s getting from viewers.
“It made Robert just take a look at himself. ... He doesn’t watch the show or anything, but he got a lot of feedback. He started getting a lot of followers. People are rooting for him,” she said.
