Los Angeles mechanic Lonnie Franklin Jr. has been charged with 10 counts of murder in Los Angeles. He has also been charged with one count of attempted murder and special-circumstance allegations of multiple murders that could make him eligible for the death penalty if convicted. He's expected to be arraigned today. Many of his alleged victims were prostitutes and women. One victim was a man. Although news outlets aren't discussing it, it appears that the victims were African American. Detectives have been investigating the murders, which occurred between 1985 and 2007, for 22 years. The attacker was dubbed the "Grim Sleeper" because he apparently took a 14-year hiatus from his crimes, from 1988 to 2002. First John Allen Muhammad. Now this. Our quest for equality continues.
