Giuliana Rancic issued yet another apology to Zendaya Coleman for the comments she made about Coleman’s dreadlocks. This time the apology was made on the air.
Rancic began her apology by stating that The Fashion Police is supposed to be good-natured fun where the hosts always poke fun at celebrities. She went on to say that she did say something that crossed the line, referring to the fact that she said Coleman’s hairstyle looked like it smelled like patchouli oil or weed.
“I just want everyone to know, I didn’t intend to hurt anyone,” Rancic stated, “but I’ve learned it is not my intent that matters, it’s the result. And the result is that people are offended, including Zendaya, and that is not OK.
“This really has been a learning experience for me,” Rancic said. “I’ve learned a lot today, and this incident has taught me to be a lot more aware of clichés and stereotypes, how much damage they can do. And that I am responsible, as we all are, to not perpetuate them further.”
The on-air apology came after Rancic’s co-host, Kelly Osbourne, posted on Twitter that she didn’t want to be dragged into the drama, and that if something wasn’t rectified, she would have to rethink her involvement in the show.

Well, if Osbourne is a “friend,” I think Coleman may want to find better friends, because a friend would have corrected Rancic’s comments immediately after she made them, not when the going gets tough on Twitter. In my head, Osbourne’s comment about the friendship actually sounds like, “Of course I’m not racist; I have a black friend.”
As for Rancic’s newest apology, I guess researching how to craft a real apology worked better in her favor. Next time she may want to leave off the preamble and not attempt to rationalize her comments.
