'Ghetto Ballet' Is More Than a Documentary

A South African ballerina from an impoverished township located outside of Cape Town has landed in America. Featured in the moving documentary, Ghetto Ballet, Sibahle Tshibika was one of the dancers vying for a coveted spot in a local dance company that could help her escape poverty. While watching the film, Sharon Story, the head of the Atlanta Ballet's Center for Dancers, spotted Tshibika. Story subsequently offered Tshibika a full scholarship at the center. The documentary that was made to inform and educate helped produce something else truly meaningful. It is wonderful when dreams actually become reality.
