If you were among the nearly 200 women who came out Thursday evening to The Root's Young, Fabulous and Female event in Philadelphia, then you know that the evening of candid talk and networking over cocktails was well worth the trek in the frigid weather.
Sponsored by Lincoln and held at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, the evening began with a panel moderated by journalist and broadcast personality Jacque Reid (Tom Joyner Morning Show), who was joined by news anchor Sheinelle Jones (Fox 29), conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson (Black Pearl Orchestra), University of Pennsylvania professor Salamishah Tillet, Ph.D., and The Root Deputy Editor Sheryl Huggins Salomon.
The panelists shared career and life advice with the women gathered, delving into topics such as when being an "angry black woman" is a good thing; what they might do differently if they had it all to do again; when to settle for paying the bills and when to pursue your dream job; and how to find a mentor.
As for whether or not you can have it all, Jones had this sage advice: "Ask for what you want. Take what you get. And use what you get to get what you want."
After the panel and an iPad drawing (won by Lashana Smith!), guests headed up to the museum galleries for champagne, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres prepared by Herb Scott Catering.
