The Root has launched its iPad app. It is now available, free for downloading, at Apple's App Store. Our iPad app brings to your fingertips our unique editorial content with a variety of black perspectives: breaking news, features, reviews and analyses of politics, culture and international affairs.
Our new app uses cutting-edge technology to take full advantage of the latest version of the Apple operating system. This means true multitasking: You can listen to our provocative podcasts while you read the content elsewhere in the application.
The Root has been available for some time on the iPhone and via mobile Web on other smartphones. However, the iPad app takes advantage of the ease of navigation that the device makes possible to make it a truly satisfying reading experience.
You can download the iPad app here.
Here are some benefits of the new iPad app:
—Highlights of the hottest news stories from around the Web
—Our hand-picked selection of commentary by the top African-American writers
—Original features tackling race, politics, society, culture and the day's most-talked-about topics
—Provocative podcasts about the issues everyone's discussing
—A home screen designed to make it easy to access all of The Root's top stories
—Tools that let you share stories and features from The Root via e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and Instapaper, the hot new Web application that lets you save Web pages for later reading
Now, even when you're on the go, you can take along John McWhorter's iconoclastic essays; Helena Andrews' often hilarious ruminations on being black, female and single; Sherrilyn Ifill's trenchant analyses of machinations in the highest courts in the land; Stanley Crouch's deconstruction of conventional wisdom; Rebecca Walker's cool analysis of books and people; Teresa Wiltz's elegant essays about everything from Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls to Liberia's remarkable comeback; and the biting comments of Buckwheat, courtesy of The Root's Jack White.
