Lakeisha Jones is suing Georgia's Savannah-Chatham school board over what she claims was an unfair firing, according to Savannah Now.
Jones was employed as a business teacher at Myers Middle School in Savannah, Ga. Students found nude photos of her on her cellphone after she sent them off to find scissors during classroom time. Jones noticed that the students were taking a long time to return to class. When she found them, the girls were standing over her phone, gawking, Savannah Now reports. Jones learned afterward that the students had snapped photos of her pictures using their cellphones.
It was not until being informed by one of the girls involved did Jones realize that students were spreading the images on social media, the news site reports.
“Back home, my family is prominent. I’m the Natchez Indians [Mardis Gras Ball] queen. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” Jones told Savannah Now.
Jones believes that she is the victim in this case, but the Savannah-Chatham school board thinks otherwise. The board terminated Jones for “being irresponsible with her phone, for not properly handling or reporting the incident, and for insubordination in the weeks that followed,” reports Savannah Now.
Jones maintains that she is not in the wrong for keeping nude photos on her cellphone. “I’m grown. Whatever is in my phone is my business. There is nothing in the policy about what you can or cannot have in your phone,” Jones told Savannah Now.
In addition to the school board, Jones is suing the students involved in leaking the photos.
