Gay Troops Attempt to Re-Enlist after Pentagon's Directive

According to the Associated Press, at least three service members discharged for being gay have begun the process to re-enlist. The movement to overturn the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy gained momentum when President Barack Obama campaigned on its repeal. Congress failed to repeal the policy this fall, but U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips declared it unconstitutional last month. As the Justice Department battles in the courts to slow the movement to abolish the policy, the Pentagon has directed the military to accept openly gay recruits for the first time in the nation's history. Service members who were discharged under the policy are now attempting to get their jobs back. Being fired for being gay is discriminatory and now unconstitutional. Two snaps up and a twist for those going after jobs they should never have lost.
