Gary "Diaperman" Shider, also know as Starchild and Doo Wop Gary, has passed away. Shider, who fought a long battle with brain and lung cancer, succumbed in his Upper Marlboro, Md., home. Shider was the musical director for legendary band Parliament Funkadelic. He was known for his funk guitar work and tremendous songwriting skills. A New Jersey native, Shider started his musical career by playing in church, eventually forming a band at age 16 called United Soul (U.S.) in Canada. Toronto is where he met legendary artist George Clinton, becoming a member of P-Funk, co-writing and providing vocals on some of the band's biggest hits — including "Atomic Dog," "Cosmic Slop," "Can You Get to That" and "One Nation Under the Groove." Shider was 56. RIP to one of the original Funkateers.
