French singer-songwriter Asa, pronounced A-sha, has already gained a loyal following with her soulful self-titled debut album, which was released in 2007. After a four-year hiatus, the 29-year-old's sophomore album, Beautiful Imperfection, has finally made its way to the States after meeting critical acclaim across Europe. The Nigerian-French singer's unique style alludes to the Motown sound of the 1960s with an airy, pop-oriented twist.
While the bulk of her popularity remains in Europe, Asa is gaining fans across the Atlantic, including some at The Root. Asa's Beautiful Imperfection is now available in the U.S. and is a great addition to any soul music collection.
