Dana Perino, former White House press secretary for George W. Bush, doesn't seem to like Barack Obama's jokes. Speaking at the annual Gridiron Club dinner recently, Obama roasted House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) about his skin color. "I've made a few jokes over the years about John's unusual coloring," he said. "I used to think that it was a tan. But after seeing how often he tears up, I've come to realize: that's not a tan, that's rust."
While these types of jokes and riffs aren't unusual at these annual press gatherings, the ex-Bush spokeswoman spoke out about it during a segment on Fox News over the weekend. "The one thing that's interesting to me? With all the speechwriters that they have, they can't come up with any new material," she said. "They keep going back to the same well and making fun of John Boehner's skin color. Really? This White House? Of all White Houses?"
President Obama isn't the only one joking on Boehner's skin color. It's actually a common refrain around D.C., with members of both parties routinely making comments about the congressman's "orangey" skin color. However, Perino's remarks seem to indicate that since President Obama is black, his remarks are totally out of line. Do you agree? Should President Obama not make jokes about skin color?
