Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who became the team’s all-time leader in career wins, was released from an Arizona jail Thursday after serving a one-day sentence for a DUI arrest last year, the Daily News reports.
The 37-year-old was booked Wednesday into a detention facility by order of the West Mesa Justice Court and released a day later, the report says. He was arrested Dec. 15 in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community east of Phoenix and charged with a misdemeanor DUI, the News reports, citing court records.
McNabb, according to the citation, was stopped on the Loop 101 freeway just after 3 a.m., and radar clocked his Range Rover at 81 mph in a 65-mph zone, the report says. He was also cited for DUI, but no information about blood-alcohol level was on the citation, the News says.
McNabb, who co-hosts a sports talk radio show and has a home in the Phoenix area, pleaded guilty on March 27, TMZ reports. Nine days of his sentence were suspended after he struck a plea deal with prosecutors, the site says.
"I have had other high-profile athletes who have been incarcerated with no problems, and this latest athlete follows that same pattern,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement after releasing McNabb’s mug shot Thursday morning, TMZ writes.
McNabb led the Philadelphia Eagles to four straight NFC championship games from 2001 to 2004 and once to the Super Bowl, which ended in a 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots in 2005. Before retirement, he played for the Washington Redskins in 2010 and Minnesota Vikings in 2011.
