CNN is reporting that former New Orleans police officer Michael Hunter has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in the post-Katrina shootings. Hunter pleaded guilty April 7 in federal court in New Orleans to conspiracy to obstruct justice and for concealing a known crime in the Danziger Bridge shootings that left two dead and four seriously wounded, the Department of Justice said in a statement yesterday. Hunter also was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and serve three years' supervised release. His sentence will begin in March 2011.
We suppose that "better late than never" would be appropriate here. Only eight years for being involved in the shooting, killing and covering up of the murder of two men, one of whom was disabled? Did we mention they were only looking for food? If one of the victims had killed or participated in the killing of a cop, he would have received the death penalty or a life sentence. "Just-us" is served again.
