On Thursday, Aug. 3, The Root's political correspondent Keli Goff caught up with Florida's lieutenant governor, Jennifer Carroll, at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. During the discussion, Goff asked Carroll to address a controversial remark she made this summer in response to allegations she was having an affair with her female travel aide. At the time, Carroll said, "Usually black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that," raising eyebrows and sparking outrage within the LGBT community.

"I don't know where the tension or concern came from," Carroll told Goff. "I profusely apologized and was very sincere about it because I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings."

What are Carroll's thoughts on a GOP endorsement of same-sex marriage? Watch more of Goff's interview with Carroll to hear her response.
