Black people are unique. We do things differently. The way we dress, the way we interact with each other, how we speak, and even how we spell our names. It’s what makes “Black culture,” the greatest thing in the world.
So you can bet your ass that when someone who isn’t even involved in the “culture” criticizes it, we’re going to be angry. Especially when it’s a white woman who has no idea what she is talking about.
The latest example of someone criticizing Black people involves a typical “Karen” in Florida who had the gall to castigate the way Black people spell their names. In a video posted to TikTok on Wednesday, this white woman was seen saying, “Black people are notorious for naming their children 25-letter names that they’re never gonna get pronounced right, let alone spelled right. Why would you do that?”
In response, the person recording the video says, “The reason for that is because during slavery their identities were taken away so they had to have unique names in order to identify their offspring when they were sold from different plantations.”
One would think that Karen would just shut up and listen to the people trying to educate her. Nah, she had to respond and share more on why she thought Black people’s names are so heinous.
Karen asked, “Okay, well how about now? Isn’t that sort of trauma for that poor kid that’s never gonna have his name spelled right?”
My favorite part of the clip is when the person recording gives the perfect response by asking, “You can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but you can’t say Jaquan. Are you kidding me?”

People like this are frustrating. You don’t like the spelling of a name so you don’t take a couple of seconds to pronounce it correctly? It’s not that hard to simply ask someone to correctly say their name for you. It’s pretty simple.
Instead, this woman would much rather focus on how many letters are in the name than how to pronounce it.
