A Tampa Bay, Fla., woman was looking for a way to turn her daughter’s grades around, but authorities say she took it too far when she allegedly beat her child with a leather belt and then crafted a T-shirt for her daughter to wear explaining her failing grades and threatening kids to leave her alone or she would “get another good woopin [sic].”
Melany Joyce Alexander, 30, was arrested Friday and charged with child abuse after staff at West Hernando Middle School called police when Alexander’s daughter arrived at school wearing a white T-shirt with the words, “I currently have all F’s in all of my classes. I am not aloud [sic] to have a boyfriend no time soon so back off before I get another good woopin like I got last night,” according to WFTS Tampa Bay.
According to the affidavit viewed by the news station, Alexander reportedly hit her daughter with a “leather belt with holes with metal divots, which left clear impressions in several places to include both arms, neck, chest, back and legs,” which, after having viewed the marks, authorities concluded, was excessive.
The news station notes that Alexander was reportedly uncooperative when questioned by police, but admitted to beating her daughter with a belt for her failing grades.
