A Florida man has been been sentenced to 25 years in prison after raping a woman so that he could get into prison to get even with the person who killed his 14-year-old son, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Joel Jones raped the unidentified victim in August 2014 after she responded to a Craigslist ad for a job with an office-cleaning service. He lured the woman into an office under the pretense of showing her what rooms to clean before raping her at knifepoint.
Jones later said that he was motivated by the death of his 14-year-old son and that he raped the woman because “this is how he would get to the people who killed his son,” the arrest report indicates.
“This case is not really about what someone did to your child, but what you did to someone else’s child,” Circuit Judge Jack Cox told Jones during the sentencing Thursday. “The things that you did to her was completely beyond the realm of what a human being should do to another human being.”
This is not Jones’ first tangle with the law, the Palm Beach Post reports, with Jones having been convicted of sexual battery and burglary in 1991. He also served more than eight years in prison for second-degree murder.
