A 26-year-old Florida man was found guilty on Thursday of tossing an infant out the window of a moving car, the New York Post reports. Little Emanuel Wesley Murray died instantly.

According to the report, Richard McTear attacked his ex-girlfriend Jasmine Bedwell in 2009 when she came home with her son. McTear grabbed the infant from the 22-year-old mother’s hands and drove away on Tampa’s Interstate 275, the Post notes. Along that highway, he threw the baby boy out the car window. Bloodstains belonging to the infant were found on McTear’s pants and in a car he had driven.

After more than seven hours of deliberation, jurors found McTear guilty on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, battery and aggravated child abuse, the Post reports. Sentencing will begin on Monday. The 26-year-old faces a mandatory life sentence without parole. However, jurors do have the option of suggesting capital punishment.
