When ex-con Darius Devonte McClain was questioned by police for blaring loud music from his car stereo on a side street in Winter Haven, Fla., he gave them his brother’s name, according to the New York Daily News.
Little did he know, however, that his brother Dequan Gunter, from nearby Putnam County in central Florida, was the subject of an arrest warrant. Now McClain is facing charges of giving a false identity.
In addition to giving police his brother’s name, McClain gave them a Social Security number belonging to a white man born in 1969. It is not clear why he decided to lie to police about his identity, but it may have something to do with felony parole-violation charges that stem from introducing contraband into a detention facility, the report says. He is being held at the Polk County Jail.
