We’re nearing the finish line, and it’s getting hot in the presidential kitchen! In what CNN interviewer Dana Bash called the shortest campaign in modern American history, Vice President Kamala Harris has been putting on the jets to ignite American voters and go toe to toe with former President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, sat down with Bash for an exclusive interview, and here’s are some of the highlights.

1. Harris’ Plans on Day One

The Democratic nominee has been facing backlash from critics who claim she has no real policies. Well, during her CNN interview, Harris laid out all of her plans for what she will do on day one if she’s elected to office.

As part of her “opportunity economy” plan, Harris plans to strengthen the middle class by bringing down the cost of everyday goods, investing in families through her $6,000 child tax credit extension, and more.

2. ‘My Values Have Not Changed’

Harris has altered her stance on a number of issues over the years including fracking and the economy, but she made it clear last night that despite her change in policy, her “values have not changed.” At her core, Harris insisted she has remained strong on her views, and Americans voters can check out her track record for proof.

3. Harris Not Giving Trump the Time of Day

The vice president made it clear that when it comes to Trump and his antics, she has bigger fish to fry. When asked about her response to Trump’s outrageous claims that Harris “happened to turn Black” last month, Harris simply shook her head and said it’s part of Trump’s “same ole tired playbook.”

“Next question, please,” she continued.

“That’s it?” Bash asked.

“That’s it,” Harris responded with a smile.

4. Tim Walz Clarifies His Mistakes

The Minn. governor sat down with Harris and Bash to clarify his intention regarding past comments about “weapons of war” remark and IVF vs. IUI. Although Walz initially deflected, saying his and Harris’ stances are widely different and much better than that of Trump and his running mate, Walz said sometimes his “grammar’s not always correct.”

Walz is really just excited to be there with Harris, as he and the vice president share a number of ideas aiming to push the country forward.

5. Biden’s Drop Out Phone Call

Harris got real about the moments leading up to and during her phone call with President Joe Biden that changed everything. She recalled making breakfast for her family and starting a puzzle when Biden told her he was dropping out of the race.

“I asked him, ‘Are you sure?’ and he said ‘Yes,’” she recalled. Harris continued saying the president pledged his support for her even though “my first thought was not about me, to be honest with you. My first thought was about him,” she said.

Like always, Harris said she stands by Biden’s decision and history will remember him as a strong American leader who “puts the American people first.”

With less than 68 days left until Americans line up at the voting polls, there’s no signs that this election has any plans to slow down. Harris and Trump are set to face each other for the first time ever on the debate stage on Sept. 10.
