On the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, #FergusonTaughtMe trended on Twitter Sunday and well into Monday as users shared what they had learned one year later. Brown’s death resonated around the world, and even a year later, it still stings those who rally against injustice. Although some people say his death has taught them about injustice and activism, others seem to think not much has changed in a year.

As users made sure their voices were heard on social media, vigils were held in Ferguson, Mo., Sunday, as well. At one point, a four-and-a-half-minute moment of silence was held to signify the four-and-a-half hours that Brown’s body was left on the street after he was shot by now-former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.
One year after Brown’s death, a number of other unarmed black people have been killed by those people whose job it is to “protect and serve,” and who got off scot-free. #FergusonTaughtMe that some police officers are no better than the criminals they rough up before throwing them behind bars.
