Rebel Wilson, aka Fat Amy from the Pitch Perfect movies, wasn’t a fan favorite during Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. Wilson, who was presenting the award for Best Hip-Hop Video (which Nicki Minaj won), joked about police injustice.
“I know a lot of people have problems with the police, but I really hate police strippers,” Wilson stated while dressed in a police uniform. She then stripped down to a T-shirt reading, “[F—k] tha Police Stripper,” and went on to joke about her grandmother having a stripper as a birthday gift who wouldn’t “feel her up.”
“I hate this injustice,” she joked, “hence the shirt;” a shirt some thought was a play on Black Lives Matter but may have been a play on N.W.A’s song.
Many people on social media thought the skit was definitely inappropriate, especially considering current issues with police brutality.

Sure, Wilson probably didn’t write the skit or even the jokes. But this goes to show that even with MTV’s documentary White People and its attempt to encourage understanding about present-day racial issues, MTV is going to do what it does best: make a mockery of issues under the guise of entertainment.
