Fantasia Barrino wasn't at the Grammys to accept her award for best female vocal performance for "Bittersweet" because she was at home, "going through [her] own little thing," she told the hosts of BET's 106 and Park.
What exactly was her "thing" about? The fact that she wasn't invited to participate in the Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch, Yolanda Adams and Martina McBride medley of Aretha Franklin hits.
"Last night they were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage," she said. So she decided to stay home and watch the awards on TV.
It seems a little silly and shortsighted of the singer to have missed out on the experience of receiving her own award because of bitterness about someone else's tribute. But if that's what she had to do to prevent some sort of "happy feet"-dancing, stage-crashing, "I'm sorry, but I'm the best Aretha Franklin tribute performer of all times" Kanye moment, we fully support the decision.
