Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan passed away on Thursday at the age of 34—with tributes from many of Quan’s collaborators pouring in. Yet authorities had barely confirmed the “Type of Way” rapper’s death when audio from a 911 emergency call from his home went public.
TMZ reported that Quan’s girlfriend Amber Williams can be heard frantically requesting an ambulance on the call and trying to explain the details of the emergency situation to the operator. However, Williams and the operator were having a difficult time understanding simple requests, and that pissed everybody off online.
“Anyone else get mad when the operator told her to use defibrillators like everyone just has those laying around,” wrote one social media commentator.
Williams shared to the operator that Quan had been on the couch all night and all morning, and she went to put a blanket over him before she took her kids to school. When she returned, Quan was still on the couch and noticed he was foaming at the mouth when she tried to rouse him.
The operator can be heard asking what she meant by a “blanket.” To which Williams responded by trying to explain that it was a “cover.”
Then the operator asked Williams to get a defibrillator if she has one. To which Williams answered with, “What’s a defibrillator?”
“Fire the 911 operator IMMEDIATELY. Who the f**k has a defibrillator laying around she said she was at HOME,” questioned one commentator.
Another added, “And got the nerve to say “let me know when you find it.” Muthaf**ka! 🤦🏾♂️😩😤.”
But at least a few commentators were sticking up for the operator, saying, “I used to dispatch it’s a script they have to read, i used to hate saying that part bc nobody has that 😩.”
Another added, “If you have a friend or family member who is an addict, know and learn what a defibrillator is and always have narcan on hand!”
The previous comment referenced unconfirmed reports that Quan might have died from an overdose.
“I know 911 operators are trained to be calm but damn how many times does she need to explain he ain’t breathing, and who has a defibrillator just laying around,” wrote another commentator.
Then there were a few commentators who came after TMZ after
“Bro do yall think to withhold some sh*t? Some sh*t is personal to the family smh, wrote commentator Aye Rose.
On Tuesday, Quan shared what would be his final message on Instagram, writing “Vision clear even through the BS 🤫,” including a photo of himself rocking some eyeglasses and wearing a green and white “89” jersey.
