Whether you agree with The Root's Nsenga Burton (that we were "robbed" at the Oscars this year) or Teresa Wiltz (that there just weren’t any good black movies out there), there just might be hope for black film.
We recently profiled seven up-and-coming black directors. And last week, "Eye on Black": A Salute to Directors honored African-American filmmaking pioneers Keenan Ivory Wayans, Robert Townsend, Tim Story and Melvin Van Peebles at the California African American Museum.
Check out the pictures from the event and expect to (hopefully) hear some of these names at future Academy Awards ceremonies.
