Well, even if Tuesday’s State of the Union by President Donald Trump makes you roll your eyes into the very back of your head, there will be a reprieve, children.
Political pundit Angela Rye, who has risen to become a prominent voice for a black community under siege, will break it all down during the premiere of Angela Rye’s State of the Union, a four-part series that will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on BET.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), aka Auntie Maxine, First of Her Name, She Who Takes No Tea for the Fever, is slated to offer a rebuttal to 45’s foolishness during the special.
In an exclusive interview with The Root, Rye said that Waters will make it plain.
“Queen Maxine is going to hit the facts quick; she’s going to do it as only she can, but we’re not going to linger over his nonsense,” Rye said.
During the premier Angela Rye’s State of the Union episode, a diverse panel of experts will deconstruct Trump’s words and his first year in office, but the focus will unapologetically be on black America.
“We’re going to talk about our solutions our way,” Rye said. “We’re not here to just entertain; we’re here to teach, inform and talk about issues important to us.”
Panelists will include David Johns, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition; Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams; Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color of Change; St. Paul, Minn., Mayor Melvin Carter; political strategist Stefanie Brown James; and Opal Tometi, executive director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration.
Black excellence will be in the building!
“It should be dope,” Rye said.
With Rye at the helm—and her signature brilliance and wit guiding the way—we couldn’t agree more.
Tune in to Angela Rye’s State of the Union on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 p.m. ET on BET.
