Etta James' manager has given her fans and the music world a great holiday gift. While the Grammy-winning blues and soul legend is still hospitalized in Los Angeles, she has been taken off a respirator.
"Ms. James has been taken off the respirator and is now breathing on her own. Her blood pressure is normal," Lupe de Leon told AFP.com. "We are all happy with this news."
James, 73, is suffering from various ailments, most notably leukemia, but also dementia and hepatitis C. She was hospitalized a week ago.
"She could be back home next week, but we are not sure," de Leon said.
Earlier this month, a judge set aside $350,000 for James' medical care. She has been receiving mostly at-home care.
We pray for the speedy recovery of the singer who brought us the classic "At Last."
