Although it could never happen on the hip-hop-themed juggernaut known as Empire (but then again, this is Empire), actors Grace Gealey and Trai Byers wed on Grand Cayman Island on Thursday.
TMZ first reported on the nuptials with fuzzy images from the intimate, private ceremony showing Gealey—who plays the devious Anika Calhoun, aka Boo Boo Kitty—and Byers, who portrays firstborn son Andre Lyon on the show, standing on a beach and at the reception (there was at least one wardrobe change).
Only about 50 people were invited, according to TMZ, and reports vary on whether any Empire co-stars were in attendance. Guests reportedly dined on steak and lobster and danced to hip-hop, disco and reggae music after the ceremony.
Gealey, 31, and Byers, 32, got engaged last summer. Gealey has said that she treads lightly around workplace romances but obviously decided to take the plunge anyway.
“I’m not a fan of flings when you work, ’cause that’s where it gets a little dangerous,” Gealey said to E! online. “I think that if you do get involved at your workplace, you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just not just something that is frivolous and fleeting.”
