Elle UK Says Baby Hair Is a New ‘Trend’

Baby hair used to be a thing back in the day. Your mother would take a brush and make sure the baby hairs were nice and neat. But eventually, unlike Chilli from TLC, you grew out of your baby-hair phase. Which was probably around the same time you discovered bangs. What good was baby hair if your bangs were covering them?

Apparently, Elle UK just learned about baby hairs and has declared it a new “trend.” In a recent article, the fashion magazine used images from FKA Twigs, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez—though the latter two women aren’t even wearing baby hair.

Sure, maybe baby hairs were never a thing in the United Kingdom, but since the author of the article recalled Chilli from TLC, technically I’m not sure why they were labeled new. Maybe the more appropriate term would have been a “revisited” trend. But let’s face it—it’s not a trend, because black girls did it forever, but now it’s reached the runways of Paris.

Needless to say, the reactions on Twitter were priceless:

If Elle UK really wanted to pay homage to something that wasn’t a trend, its editors should have posted a photo of Chilli’s baby hair, which was always pristine.
