You may or may not agree with the winners selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at next year's Oscars, but one thing is just about guaranteed: You'll be laughing during the show.
After Anne Hathaway and James Franco's disappointing performance last year, the producers have decided to go with comedy veteran Eddie Murphy as host of the 2012 Academy Awards.
The Washington Post reports that word leaked over the weekend that Murphy was the choice, and by Tuesday afternoon, the deal was done.
"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever," producer Brett Ratner said in a statement. "With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances — especially onstage — I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show … "
The Oscars will air Feb. 26, 2012, on ABC.
