The last time Eddie Murphy appeared on Saturday Night Live, in 1984, his Australian model girlfriend, Paige Butler, was only 3 years old. Now, 31 years later, the stand-up-comic-turned-reggae-singer will return to his roots.
In an interview with Roland Martin for NewsOne Now, Murphy said he will appear on the 40th-anniversary special for SNL that airs Feb. 15.
"It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it," Murphy told Martin in response to being asked why it has been so long since his return to the show. "They're actually having a 40th anniversary, I think, in two weeks. I'm going to that, and that'll be the first time I've been back since I left."
On top of discussing his return to SNL, Murphy also spoke about his new reggae song, "Oh Jah Jah," and his return to music.
"I never ever stopped making music. I stopped putting music out in the '80s. In the '80s for some reason, more than in any decade, there was a bunch of actors that was trying to sing and put records out, and it looked crazy," Murphy stated.
Although "Oh Jah Jah" doesn't have an official music video yet, Murphy did team up last year with Snoop Lion (aka Snoop Dogg) to create one for his single "Red Lion."
