Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has mastered the fine art of dominating a genre or character type and delivering an army of films while getting paid for it.
And I mean, getting hella paid for it. Shit, he’s the second highest paid actor on the 2018 Forbes list. Let me remind you, his original career (after college football) was as a professional wrestler; now, he’s neck-and-neck in acting pay with the likes of George fucking Clooney, topping other actors with far more experience.
A smoothly secured bag. Similar to his partner-in-crime, Kevin Hart.
Johnson’s latest venture is Fighting With My Family, a comedy based on the true story of WWE Superstar Paige, who (along with her brother, Zak) gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try out for the juggernaut pro wrestling company and comes to terms with the challenges and sacrifices that come with it.
Johnson pops up as a source of inspiration for Paige, as then-WWF popular caricature The Rock, in all of his full adrenaline-rushed energy.
But wait, doesn’t he kind of already do that in Rampage, Skyscraper, Central Intelligence, Baywatch, Jumanji, San Andreas and the Fast & Furious franchise?
IT DOESN’T MATTER IF HE ALREADY KIND OF PLAYS HIMSELF IN MOVIES.
Because he gettin’ paid. Cushiest job ever.
On Thursday morning, the Rampage star tweeted how honored he was to play a “small part” in telling Paige’s story, along with a first look of the movie’s official poster. Johnson will also serve as a producer on the film.
Fighting With My Family releases in Los Angeles and New York theaters on Feb. 14, 2019, and will have its wide release on Feb. 22, 2019.
And that’s not all. Johnson’s production company Seven Bucks Productions has new talent in their executive division, recently hiring former WME agent Kevin Hill as Head of Television & Digital Development. Johnson co-founded the company with his ex-wife, Dany Garcia.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome Kevin into the family. Throughout his hard work with us at WME, Kevin has proven a deep understanding of the Seven Bucks ethos and ability to make groundbreaking and ambitious projects happen. He’s been a key driver of our growth, and we’ve been huge fans of his talents from the moment we first met,” said Garcia and Johnson, in a statement via Deadline.
Dwayne has a lot cookin’. Can you smell it?
