Shortly after being revived back to life after being slaughtered by Pusha T on “The Story of Adidon,” Drake has issued a statement about the blackface photo Pusha used as artwork for the diss track.
The photo, which was taken by David Leyes and removed from his own site, shows Drake in full blackface and wearing a Jim Crow T-shirt (which the company has said was “art” also). But according to Drake, the message behind the 2007 photo is being misconstrued.
“This was not from a clothing brand shoot or my music career,” the rapper writes. “This picture is from 2007, a time in my life where I was an actor and I was working on a project that was about young black actors struggling to get roles, being stereotyped and type cast. The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment.”
On Tuesday night, Pusha set the internet ablaze with his response to Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle,” and had everyone talking about the Canadian rapper’s secret love seed in France and the fact that the baby’s mother is a porn star. When Pusha released the track, he made sure people realized that the blackface photo wasn’t doctored and criticized it as not being art.
What Drake failed to mention in his explanation was how shitty an idea his “artwork” was. But then again, when you’re brought back to life after being ethered, I’ve heard getting to full brain capacity takes a couple of days and at least three ghostwriters.
