Jimmy is back! Although Drake has pursued a rap career while some of his other Degrassi co-stars have continued acting and others have just disappeared, ole Jimmy and the rest of the cast haven’t forgotten about Degrassi Community School.
Drake dropped the visuals to his song “I’m Upset” and paid homage to his Degrassi: The Next Generation days. Drake’s character, Jimmy Brooks, appeared alongside some of our childhood faves, such as Shane “Spinnerq” Kippel, Nina “Mia” Dobrev and Miriam “Emma” McDonald, to name a few.
To some, the actual song wasn’t as great as it could have been, and many, myself included, are wondering where the diss to Pusha T is. Drake’s PR team is spot on, because we surely were distracted.
The video was directed by Karena Evans, 22, who was also behind the “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What” videos. Evans, who started her journey interning for Director X, has definitely been adding meaning to Drake’s videos. Her journey has been continually progressing; she was the first female recipient of the Prism Prize’s Lipsett Award for her innovative approach to directing music videos.
Aside from this iconic music video, Drake also unveiled the artwork for his upcoming album, Scorpion, set to be released June 29. The image appeared on the ’gram.
