Dr. David Dao has reached a settlement with United Airlines for the injuries caused when he was brutally dragged off his flight after being involuntarily bumped.
Two weeks ago, Dao made headlines when gate agents asked volunteers to give up their seats on Louisville, Ky.-bound Flight 3411 to make room for the crew. Not enough passengers volunteered, and Dao was randomly chosen. That’s when the melee started.
Dao refused to give up his seat, informing the officer that he needed to be at work in the morning because he’s a doctor. A second officer entered the scenario. Dao was dragged through the airplane and was heard yelling: “I’m not getting off the plane, just kill me. I want to go home.”
United, just like Dao, was dragged on social media and issued one failed apology after another. Shortly after the incident, Dao’s lawyer, Thomas Demetrio, spoke about his client.
“Dr. Dao, I believe to his great credit, has come to understand that he is the guy, the guy to stand up for all passengers going forward,” Demetrio said.
Dao’s settlement will remain confidential.
