Dr. Dre and Ice Cube want no part of the wrongful death lawsuit that was filed against Marion “Suge” Knight by the wife of the man whom Knight is accused of killing.
Lilian Carter is suing because her husband, Terry Carter, was pummeled to death by Knight's truck during an altercation he and another man had with Knight after leaving the Straight Outta Compton film set.
In addition to Knight, Lilian Carter's lawsuit also names Universal Studios, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube as responsible parties because it claims that better security should have been provided on the set of the film, and certain people who had ongoing beefs with Knight should not have been hired to work on the set.
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are arguing that those claims are bogus, the New York Daily News explains. Their countermotion says that they had absolutely nothing to do with Knight or the fight. They say "there is no justification" for pinning Knight's "outrageous and criminal attack […] that took Carter's life" on them.
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube acknowledge that they instructed someone to tell Knight to leave the set, but they had no clue that the situation would escalate, or that Knight would get into an altercation with film staffers at a nearby fast-food restaurant.
Lilian Carter, meanwhile, is arguing that Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were well-aware of the beef that Knight had with a few of the film's staffers, and should have taken extra precautions to minimize the possibility of an altercation. A hearing for the wrongful death suit is scheduled for Sept. 4.
