(The Root) — While most of us would never admit that anyone could get busy in the kitchen better than dear ol' Mom (or Big Momma, for that matter), there will probably come a time when you're in the mood to dine out but still want to taste the comforts of home. Or maybe you're out of town and feenin' for biscuits with gravy and sweet tea.
Now, with the Soul Food Finder app, you'll always know where to go to satisfy that craving. (Given The Root's recent series on healthy eating in the black community, it should be noted that it's always smart to indulge in moderation!)
Created by TV One in conjunction with the new television cooking-competition show My Momma Throws Down, the app can be your new guide to the best places to get soul food around the country. Users can locate restaurants via GPS or search by the eatery's name or ZIP code. You can also filter search results by user-generated ratings or cost. If you're a restaurant owner or you just had a great meal, there is also a screen where you can submit information.
The Soul Food Finder app is a pretty simple concept, and it's easy to use. I live in the Philadelphia area, and all of the restaurants I'm familiar with were included, along with some new places I will have to check out. The app is free and available for iPhone and Android.
The next time you're in the mood for a little something good for the soul, you'll have all the information you need at your fingertips. Bon appétit!
