During a Thursday victory rally in Hershey, Pa., President-elect Donald Trump called on a mostly white crowd to cheer for African Americans who were "smart" to listen to him and then "didn't come out to vote" for Hillary Clinton to become president, the Associated Press reports.
During his speech, Trump regaled the crowd with a play-by-play of his win on election night.
He then gave his shoutout to the African-American community.
"We did great with the African-American community," Trump told the cheering crowd, crediting his "famous" pitch when he asked black voters, "What the hell do you have to lose?"
"And they're smart, and they picked up on it like you wouldn't believe," he said.
"And you know what else?" Trump added. "They didn't come out to vote for Hillary, they didn't come out. And that was the big thing, so thank you to the African-American community."
