In today’s “Don Lemon says the dumbest things” news, the CNN anchor doesn’t actually think that University of Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity housemother Beauton Gilbow is racist after a Vine was posted showing her using the n-word.
Last night on CNN, Lemon defended Gilbow and stated that since she’s just singing a song and was persuaded by the frat, “Is she really racist if some kids are goading her into singing a song?”
Sunny Hostin appeared on the segment with Lemon and attempted to explain that Gilbow’s video just goes to show how racism is “so pervasive in the culture of that fraternity.” In Lemon’s opinion, if Gilbow wasn’t actually calling people the n-word, then one can’t really say she’s racist.
Of course Gilbow has now feigned ignorance when it comes to the Vine she appeared in. In a statement released to News 9, she stated the following:
I have been made aware that a video of me that is circulating on social media and in the news. I am heartbroken by the portrayal that I am in some way racist. I have friends of all race and do not tolerate any form of discrimination in my life. I was singing along to a Trinidad song but completely understand how the video must appear in the context of the events that occurred this week.
Maybe Lemon will have Gilbow on his show, just so they can sing the song together.
