Chris Brown isn’t happy about the Investigation Discovery 2024 docuseries about him entitled “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.” In fact, the artist is so upset that he’s suing the company behind it—Warner Bros. Discovery—as well as the documentary’s producers and its featured subjects for $500 million.

As reported by Deadline, the defamation filing—which was filed in California’s Superior Court for Los Angeles County on Tuesday (Jan. 21)—claims that the docuseries is slanderous and full of lies. “To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” asserts Brown’s lawyers in a complaint .

“Since the beginning of October of 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were put on notice that they were promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment of Chris Brown,” they continue.

The claim also says the documentary violates “basic journalist principles.” But does Brown have the right to sue for half a billion dollars?

One of the most disturbing allegations in documentary is from a Jane Doe who claimed that Brown drugged and raped her on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Miami Beach-based yacht. She allegedly sued Brown in 2022 for sexual assault.

“Mr. Brown has never been found guilty of any sex related crime (rape, sexual battery, sexual assault, etc.) but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser,” according to the complaint.

However, the lawsuit does not mention Brown assaulting Rihanna back in 2009, claims that he hit her several times throughout their romantic relationship, and a separate 2018 sexual assault case with a different alleged victim that was settled with a payout.

Brown is suing for alleged defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and using his name and likeness for promotional purposes.

His legal team expressed that he plans to donate some of the $500 million in damages to “survivors of sexual abuse” if he wins.
