Although things are increasingly looking bleak for Jennifer Lopez’s former boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs, it appears she’s on the up-and-up—despite her impending divorce from Ben Affleck.

If you’ll remember, JLo filed for divorce back in August but notably did not have a prenup in place, according to TMZ. In July, Ben bought a house of his own in Los Angeles. And that move came just one month after the pair decided to put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale, as well.

Now, in the months since her filing, “The Second Act” star is opening up about herself and her new views on love. Sitting down with Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine, JLo explained that she realized that she needed the time and space to look within herself to find her own shortcomings and wholeness—and that’s what ultimately led to her decision to part ways with Ben.

“You have to be healthy. You have to be complete, if you want something that’s more complete. You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, ‘I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that,’” the “Maid in Manhattan” star said.

She continued:

It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary. It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘these things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘no, I’m actually good.’

She went on to share that, as far as her love life is concerned, she’s currently not looking for anybody. So maybe a “Hot JLo Summer” will be in full effect next year.
