Celebrating the birthdays of loved ones who have passed on can be especially tough, but at the very least, social media offers a way to honor them with special tributes, as the late Kim Porter’s children did over the weekend.

Quincy Brown, Porter’s oldest son, as well as her son and twin daughters Christian, Jessie and D’lila Combs, have taken to social media with moving messages honoring their late mother. On Sunday, Brown, the son of Porter and Al B. Sure!, posted a TikTok where he shared something special that he recently encountered from his past.

“It is December 15th, and I want to wish my mother a happy heavenly birthday,” Brown said in the clip, before explaining that instead “of dropping an exclusive, unseen photo,” he wanted to reveal something he found that “blew” him away.

While going through “crates and stuff,” he explained that he came across an envelope. “Sealed, never before opened, and I know this handwriting,” he explained. What was inside the discovered envelope? A Cookie Monster-themed card for Brown on his birthday back in 1994, with a $10 bill inside and a message from his mother.

“My Mom gave me my first ever dollar bill,” he shared. “I haven’t seen one of these in ten years, but to see this from her saying, ‘I love you, Mommy.’” He then explained that he was probably looking for toys for his birthday at that time, but that “it was meant” for him to see this message 30 years later.

“I don’t know, it’s crazy to me,” he added. “Happy birthday Mom, love you.” He also shared a photo of himself in a jacket with Porter’s face painted on the back to his Instagram account.

We love and miss u sooo beyond much.”

“Today is your day #kimporterday and we will celebrate as if you were here with us,” they added. “WE LOVE U MOMMYYYY ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
