The adage “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone” is one of life’s extremely sobering reminders.
On November 15, 2018, the hip-hop world and beyond stood still when the shockingly tragic news of Kim Porter’s death reverberated through the music and fashion industries.
The model and actress went into cardiac arrest after suffering from a bout of pneumonia. She was 47 years old.
Naturally, many wondered how the sudden loss affected her family, including her four children and longtime boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs.
On Sunday, Diddy posted a nostalgic and heartwarming picture of him and Porter via Instagram.
The music mogul simply captioned the picture with a broken heart emoji and the letters, “SMH” (shaking my head).
Porter’s death certainly reignited a longstanding convo about the seemingly shady way Diddy treated her over many years, going back-and-forth between girlfriends only to return to their relationship. Along with sharing birth children, the two came to be a blended family, with Diddy taking on paternal responsibilities for Quincy Brown, Porter’s son with Al B. Sure. As such, many wondered why they never married. That incredulous question resurfaced on Sunday when one commenter responded to Diddy’s post, taking him to task.
“When she was alive you didn’t wanna marry her. Confused negro. GTFOH,” he wrote.
One would think the rapper-producer would brush him off as a troll, having likely received several thousands of comments similar to this, following Porter’s death.
Plot twist.
In a moment of public self-awareness, Diddy actually replied to the commenter with, “I know. Played myself smh.”
Self-reflection aside, some didn’t give him the benefit of the doubt, still angry at the way he publicly treated Porter.
While the sentiment may be true, some noted that it was especially cruel to kick a grieving man while he’s down.
Overall, let’s just hope her family manages to find some peace.
