R. Kelly apparently decided to end his 12-year marriage to Hollywood Exes star Andrea Kelly after watching the film The Notebook, Rolling Out reports, citing his newly released memoir. He writes that the film made him realize that his marriage was over and that there was nothing he could do to bring it back.
According to MTV News, in his new memoir, [Soulacoaster:] The Diary Of Me, Kelly explains that after he and Andrea wed in 1996, they eventually began to clash because she refused to put her dance career on hold to become a stay-at-home mom to their three kids.
Though the couple managed to survive Kelly’s infamous child pornography trial, the arguments between the two increased, including one in which Andrea threw her $50,000 wedding ring into a pond in their backyard.
There were also allegations of domestic violence, and in 2005 Andrea filed an emergency protective order to keep Kelly away from her[.]
After initially filing for divorce in 2006, the couple finally put an end to their 12-year marriage in 2009. And according to Kelly, he was the one who decided to end their marriage after watching the film about a 1940s couple who fall in and out of love over the years.
